Sam L. Savage, Ph.D., is an adjunct professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the School of Engineering at Stanford University. He is the author of “The Flaw of Averages: Why we Underestimate Risk in the Face of Uncertainty,” and serves as executive director of ProbabilityManagement.Org, a nonprofit dedicated to rethinking uncertainty through education, best practices, and standard setting. A lecturer at Stanford since 1991, Professor Savage earned a BA in Mathematics from Boston University, and a Master of Philosophy, Engineering & Applied Science and a Ph.D. in Computational Complexity from Yale University.
